I can't believe someone hasn't started this already since it is very related to financial news. Anyone paying attention to the protests in the news yet? I've been following it for awhile and the main stream media is doing a horrible job of covering it. I wonder if corporations and CEO's are starting to realize that the people are waking up and fed up with what has happened in the financial industry?
I think some people are bogged down with it, its all over the news outlets. The only issue is that its not getting all of the correct media coverage needed. There is always his side, her side and the truth - same goes for the news.
Yes, I have been following the news on Occupy Wall Street quite closely. One thing that really strikes me is how I keep hearing over and over as people are interviewed that they intend to stick with it "for as long as it takes". There is real fervor out there.
Well, today marks the 2 month anniversary and they are still going strong. About 1/2 of the stories on the Msnbc homepage are Occupy related right now too so they have definitely gained some attention.
I do not disagree with why many people are protesting but I do have an issue with the handouts. It is not the responsibility of me as a viewer to donate for a cause that I do not fully believe in. I say that as I do believe that education (further than high school) should be paid for, I do not believe it should bankrupt a person though.
I think the goal of the movement is to keep going, to always have people there and to be mobilized. I don't think we are going to see them leaving anytime soon. I do agree with them concerning most of their issues.
They will leave and it will be over when something changes. I wouldn't expect to hear the end of the protests until after next year's Presidential election.
I think you are probably right Elizabeth although the main stream media coverage of the protests may decrease. If you look at Egypt and Libya and the results of their protests the Occupy protests may just change things for the better. We can hope anyway!
Most media is always biased to a point, that is why its best to read through all of the red tape insanity from papers/news outlets online. I really do not think its possible to get a fully independent news story without someone even unintentionally being biased.
