Default Do you stockpile? Discuss tips and tricks to staying organized

I am not to the level of those you see on the show Extreme Couponers, but I do stockpile whenever I can. I am in the process of rebuilding my stockpile for this year. Every year, in the late fall/early winter, we do our best to shop as little as possible and live off our stockpile. This gets rid of anything so that we don't have to worry about stuff sticking around so long that it expires plus lets use our funds for Christmas.

This year, I've finally become more organized about it. I'm using clear, covered bins to keep smaller items together. I have one for hair products (not shampoos, but gels and smaller things), one for shaving, one for oral care, one for first aid, etc. This lets me stack and use all the space in my storage cabinets plus it's easier to grab what we need.

Oh, I have got loads of ideas for this. We have been increasing our inventory of foods, personal care items etc. for a few years now, and I have finally gotten pretty good at it. One thing is if you store canned goods you can get (or make) a can dispenser that you load from the top. That way your oldest stuff always come down first so you don't have to re-arrange your cabinets all the time.

These are great ideas. I do stockpile, though not to the extreme. I had never considered using clear storage bings. Those are relatively cheap, stackable and you can still see into them. Great idea!

I have just started couponing and I have a little stockpile (a box) but nothing as big as you guys. I made sure to check which stores take what their limits and keep that inside my box too. It is really fun to do.

I used to think coupons were a waste of time.

But since I met my girlfriend a few years ago, she has definitely converted me into a coupon collector - things like BOGOF burgers at fast food chains, free coffee cards and fuel vouchers make such a difference if you add them all up over the year.

It must be my old age catching up and making me become more frugal and mindful of my spending!

OT - I do stockpile them in my car glove box, just so I have them on hand if I need them without any notice!

I got a freestanding pantry that changed my entire way of storing. Before, we only had cabinet space to put food in, which meant I could really only store so much before it overflowed into boxes tucked in various places.

With the pantry, we put it in the dining room out of the way and it freed up a ton of space in the kitchen, plus let us store more before having to clear things out.

I think organization is key, when stockpiling goods. I tend to keep the goods I stockpile separate from the other goods that I buy. I don't stockpile much, but I do on a few items. Items like; toothpaste, shampoos, contact fluid, oats, peanuts, etc. It seems like stockpiling goods is great in times like these, with prices that fluctuate so easily.

I do not stockpile to the extent that you see on TV. I do however buy enough to last 6 months if I come across a great deal. I mainly only keep dish detergent or body washes in large quantities. I love checking out the damaged goods at the grocery store, I once came home with 30 boxes of trash bags that had been marked from $10 down to $2. That was probably the largest stock I ever purchased and it took care of us for a year.

I definitely stockpile. I don't have a separate room dedicated to my storage, but I have a good level of food and personal goods to last 2-6 months (depending on the product). It feels very reassuring to me, knowing that if I get really tight on money, I can just buy fresh foods (milk/eggs/produce) and be set at home for at least a month.

I would love to stockpile but just don't have the room currently. Once our basement is finished I plan on having a stockpile/ pantry.

Love the idea of the can dispenser so you always know you are getting them in order of date.
