Default Negotiating For A Lower Settlement

Has anyone ever tried to negotiate for a lower price when trying to settle a debt? I had a medical bill that my insurance didn't pay and I was going to have to pay it. So I asked if they would take less than what the face value of the bill was. I got a 15% discount on the bill and an offer by them that I could pay it in payments. It was much easier that way.

We also had to do this on some medical bills. I am glad they were willing to work with us because it would have been quite a struggle to pay it otherwise.
