Default Scared to retire

My parents are scared to retire - they have been working for 50+ years and they are scared. With medicare benefits being on shaky grounds, they don't know what to do.

Anyone else scared to retire?

I'm not at that age of retiring, but I'd be scared too so I can understand them. There is no way I could live on Social Security payments, because I couldn't afford a drop in my income at this point. Hopefully, I'll be in a better position by that time.

I am no where near the retire age range but I am still scared to retire myself. The way this country is going blows my mind year after year. Who is to say there will even be the word retire in the vocabulary by the time I am 60+.

For me, it is still a long way to go also. I didn't even think about this yet till I read the thread. I hope I wouldn't be scared when the time comes.

Medicare benefits are not on shaky grounds for them. They should be a lot more scared for YOU to be able to retire than for them to retire.

I agree with Penny. Current retirees and those within a few years of retiring are set as far as Medicare goes. Those in Congress are too scared of losing the senior vote to do anything substantial about Medicare. Sooner or later, if the medical industry continues on its current course, they'll have no choice. They'll have to start cutting Medicare benefits, but they'll wait until they have no fiscal choice.

I think anyone that is not scared of it should be, really look at where we are going as a country. Who knows what my kids are going to do when they need to retire, or their kids. I have a feeling I will be working until the day I die.
