For the people with 401K's at your job, have they performed well with the economic downturn? Mine has actually gone up. I'm glad it did, because I had to borrow money from it to pay some things off. They allow us to take a loan from it and then just pay ourselves back with a payment plan. It's a pretty good deal. They even gave us a 2% bonus in our account this year.
The advice I always hear about 401k programs is to pay into them as much as you can possibly afford to, especially if the employer will match what you put in and also put some in.
My husband has one through his employer, but I don't think there is much left in it. I know we took a big hit last quarter ,and I am not looking forward to seeing the report this time.
