Default Homemade Laundry Detergent, Preferably Green

I'm trying to become less dependent on commercially made cleaners, so DIY laundry detergent is next on my list. Does anyone have a "recipe" for a homemade, possibly green laundry detergent that will cut down on the cost of detergent per load? The commercial cleaner I'm currently using costs around $0.25 per load, and yes I calculated it because I'm frugal like that!

I buy whatever is on sale and I use coupons. Still, I keep hearing good things about making your own laundry detergent. It's supposed to be so much better for the environment. I would like to do this.

I've heard a few different recipes. One I want to try is equal parts washing soda, baking soda, and Oxiclean. It's supposed to work for my cloth diapers too.

Hello everyone, I found this recipe here that uses washing soda, Borax and an Ivory soap bar! Simple ingredients, right? The owner of the website calculated out the price per load of 267 ounce Tide powder and it's $0.21, his recipe is $0.05 per load, and it seems potent. Just thought I'd share that I found something.

I had found a recipe, but it was for a liquid detergent. I think this one looks a little easier, and I am going to give it a try.

I use the borax and soap recipe (you can buy special laundry soap, but I think you can use any bar soap at all, it probably doesn`t need to be Ivory).

Another thing I do is add some vinegar to the wash -- it comes out smelling clean and fresh. Once the vinegar has dried, there is no lingering smell at all.

I also put a damp washcloth with a few drops of essential oil in the dryer - it makes everything smell like lavender
