I get this question a great deal and the only way to explain it is that when I am outdoors and in my "own little world" I am away from everything else that tends to drag a person down. I am not worried about work or the drama, I am not dealing with family that can not get along. Its my quiet place.
Well that is a good reason to garden. I garden for the same reason and many others. It's cheaper then buying food in the stores. It's healthier then buying food in stores too.
Even just a flower garden is fine for me, I like being outdoors and not cooped up. Most people I see that are too stressed are never outdoors nearly as much as they could be.
I garden because it's cheaper, which gives me a sense of pride. It also gives me control of knowing what is going into many of the foods I eat. I buy heirloom seeds, so I know my seeds aren't modified Monsato seeds, which gives me peace of mind.
We don't grow a big garden but do like to plant a few things that we like to eat. There is just something about having grown it yourself and being able to go out and pick what you need.
I love to be outdoors but I'm not one to just sit idly all the time. Gardening gives me a reason to be outside and it saves money. Plus I love knowing that there are no chemicals in the things I grow.
It is my version of meditation. I feel much better when I work in there. And it helps provide better veggies for my family, so that does not hurt.

I garden so that I can enjoy the taste of homegrown year-round. I don’t much care for garden tending, but tomatoes from my garden, even when frozen, taste so much better than anything the grocery store carries.
I garden for I dont have to pay for all the vegetables I can be getting for free that most likely will taste so much better anyways. I like helping out my neighbors by giving them some free vegetables and stuff.. Also I do it for the fun sometimes.
We don't have our own vegetable garden, but only full of flowers. The reason I garden every day because I want to maintain these beautiful flowers outside of our home. It's one of the things I'm relaxed outside of my home sitting with my chair and seeing the garden.
