Default Crafting with "trash"

I try to get creative with stuff that other people throw away. For example, the plastic rings that are on some juice and milk containers... you know, the ones left when you twist off the caps? I take those and using scraps of green yarn, I crochet to cover the plastic ring plus then another row or two to make it ruffle. Add some beads hotglued on, or any little items, add a ribbon to hang it with and you've got an adorable wreath Christmas tree ornament. Hot glue a picture of someone in the center and it makes a great gift tag, too.

That's very creative. I wish I could make myself take the time to do more "trash to treasures" kind of stuff. Growing up, I was always making things out of empty Kleenex boxes. Every time I throw one away, I remember that and have a feeling that I should be using it for something. Old habits die hard, I guess.

That is very creative, I love it. It's something I would never have thought of. I'm pretty crafty so I am going to give it a try! I can't wait to hear about other people's trash to treasure items.

There's actually a technical term for that, it's "Found Art." I know a man from my hometown who makes art like this and people from all over the world stop by his studio to admire his beautiful "works of trash." Keep it up, maybe you could open your own studio one day!

I throw things like this, including paper towel and wrapping paper cardboard rolls, into a box in my closet. Every time the grandkids come over, they pull it out and make something. It's amazing how much time they spend creating things I'd never think of from all this stuff. We make a game of it.

That is very crafty! I have never been one that could try to crochet but if you have other ideas I am all ears. We tend to get them when we buy the mini soda's and I never know what to do with the darn things.

One good use for an empty tissue box is to store grocery bags in it. I do that and keep one in the bathroom and the office because the trash barrels in those rooms are the perfect size to reuse the plastic grocery bags.

That's a great idea! I'm always stuffing those plastic bags in the bottom of the linen closet until I need them. I use them as trash liners for everything except the kitchen. Between Walmart and the grocery store, I always have plenty.
