Default Audio books

Do you prefer to read books or to listen to them? Now there are more and more audio books distributed on the internet, either for free or for some fees. Have you downloaded and listen to any of the audio books?

I've just not been able to get use to the audio books for some reason. I really prefer to read a book myself. I know they are popular, especially when driving but just not for me.

I've listened to them at times but I've never really liked them much either. I seem to loose interest for some reason. I guess I just like the old fashion way of reading them yourself.

I have ordered some audio courses through a company called The Teaching Company. College professors lecture on all sorts of subjects. These are non-credit courses on all sorts of interesting subjects.

Now I don't mind something like what Penny did. Those are a little different. But as to a regular book, I would rather 'read' one myself. I've just not been able to get use to someone reading to me like that.

I used to listen to them at work. I would rather read, but having a few hours a night I figured listening to a book was better then listening to the same old music I was getting tired of.

Similar to the others, I prefer to read books than to listen to audio books. I want to read at my own pace, which can be faster than the speed of those audio books.

I sometimes listen to the dubs online but I have never gotten a tape for in the car (CD now) or anything like that. I would love to be able to just save them to my phone and listen on the way to work though, sometimes traffic is a bit much and the radio can only entertain you so much before it drives you mad in the mornings.

I love having an audio book in the car when I am driving on the highway with no distractions. If someone's in the car with me, it's much more difficult to do, as is driving in town. I would rather read if I'm not driving.

I used to listen to "The Radio Reader" on PBS. These days, my schedule is just too hectic to remember when it's on. I'd love to get some audio books to listen to while I'm working around the house or eating. I've tried listening to audiotapes in the car, but I can't enjoy them while I'm worrying about traffic. Like you said, audio books are suited to driving on the open road.
